Assistant Producer | March 2018 - March 2019
Finding Fixes is a Solutions Journalism podcast from Investigate West that explores the various approaches to the Opioid Epidemic. As Assistant Producer, I collaborated with Producers Anna Boiko-Weyrauch and Kyle Norris to create Season One of the show. You can listen to Finding Fixes at their website.
You can listen here to a bonus episode that I produced with the editorial help of Anna and Kyle. It centers around the story of a woman named Shannon McCarty who is currently in recovery from her addiction to heroin and painkillers.
BONUS: How Shannon got off drugs
Released March 22, 2019.
For Shannon McCarty, two things were crucial in her recovery: connections and timing. It started with timing – a key encounter just when she wanted to get off the drugs. And then it was the connections that kept her going. A police officer she could depend on. A sister who stayed in touch. A dog who gets her out of the house a few times a day. Shannon’s story helps us understand how solutions to the opioid epidemic can be incredibly personal.
Transom Traveling Workshop
Catalina Island | September 2018
Over the course of an intensive one-week radio story-telling workshop, I learned and practiced the skills of telling narrative stories in audio. As a result of that work, I produced a profile of a woman named Val Schaefer who lives on Catalina Island. She is known on the island as the “Ambassador of Happiness.” You can listen to it here.
